My Daily Thrifty Tip for April 6, 2011
#128 Keep your freezer full to save energy. In your refrigerator the air needs to flow freely, so don't over stuff your fridge. This will also help with spoilage since you can see what is in your fridge better and won't have any stinky forgotten food in the back. In contrast, your freezer runs more efficiently when it's filled. The frozen foods help to maintain the low temperature. So a good rule of thumb is to have your freezer 100% full and your refrigerator 70% full. This will save on electricity costs since your refrigerator and freezer will be running more efficiently.
